HANDCRAFTED MODERN

When we encountered this 1956 Cherrywood gem, it had barely been touched in the intervening years.

We revamped the interior to add warmth, light, and functionality while retaining the integrity of the space. Handcrafted and vintage furnishings and unique artwork were very important as we slowly populated the home over time.

Interior decor with a large portrait of a smiling boy in a pink shirt and black shorts on a green wall, a wooden sideboard with decorative vases, a potted plant, and ceramic container.

The original bathroom was Pepto-Bismol pink, with a very low vanity and barely enough room to move around. We reconfigured the closets of the bedrooms on either side to enlarge the room, so that there is a separation between the main bathing room and the WC. New vanity tiles were handmade by our friends at Era Ceramics

A modern bathroom with a wooden vanity, white countertop, and a round mirror. There are two black pendant lights hanging from the ceiling, and a large plant in a rust-colored vase on the right side of the counter. Towels are hanging on hooks on the wall reflected in the mirror.
Kitchen with wooden cabinetry, a large stainless steel refrigerator, and a rustic wooden table in the center. Pendant lights hang above the kitchen island. There are decorative items and books on the counter and open shelves.

While the kitchen and all of the appliances stayed in their original locations, existing walls were pierced to let in light and allow for circulation. Custom pine millwork and Saltillo floor tile fill the room and the adjacent living room and flow out to the screened-in porch.

The quilt on the bed was made by the homeowner’s grandmother from their grandfather’s retired polyester suits. The boro in the background was picked up during travels in Japan.

A cozy bedroom with a wooden bed frame, beige bedding, and a multicolored patchwork quilt. A decorative pillow with a patchwork design and tassels sits on top. To the left, there is a white nightstand with a small plant and a tray, beside a window with white blinds. Above the bed hangs a textured, mixed-fabric wall hanging in shades of blue and neutral tones.
